Hello my name is Geoff, Originally I am from the UK, however I am presently in South East Asia. I taught English as a Second Language in a real classroom environment for nearly six years in China and briefly in Vietnam. The range of student abilities and their ages varied from twelve years old to college, university students and professional adults. I also have been teaching and tutoring/coaching on-line for a year mainly to adults.
My love of teaching, and especially meeting students who are as keen as I am on really learning English, is vital to successful progress. As regard to qualifications, well I do have a TEFL certificate, also a Business Certification.
As regard my teaching style, well I would say it is versatile and interactive. I try and make classes easy going and I enjoy injecting humour into a class while remaining also professional in order to gently drive home a lesson's objective.
I firmly believe in ensuring talk time is balanced, a student really needs to speak more than the teacher. My classes are centred around conversation about varied topics and discussion on English language learning areas of difficulty. I will listen and after a while have a break to help you with any difficulties I noticed while you talked or we discuss a topic; for instance grammar mistakes, vocabulary and pronunciation. I will also make sure I positively encourage building your confidence. CONFIDENCE is key to speaking another language well and improving fluency.
I also have a good database of material, suitable for all areas of English language learning, including preparation for IELTS. I also will set a study plan which you can use between lessons to practice English at your own pace.
I am looking forward to seeing you. For me and for you, making your English language class with me an enjoyable and a rewarding experience is a chief aim. So, what are you waiting for, take a a trial class with me today! In the meantime have a great day!
One last little extra, I mention in my video profile about a lesson I do called ''Describing Pictures and Paintings'', well I have an introduction followed by a full tutorial of how and what to do in the lesson. It also is a good guide to my teaching style, though, it is a preparation tutorial for those who'd like to take it as a class. You might like to copy the link below and watch it on youtube.
